The Setsubun Festival at Togenuki Jizo (Koganji Temple) is one of the major annual events at this beloved Sugamo temple. The bean-throwing ceremony drives away evil spirits and invites good fortune for the coming year.
The temple is known as "Grandma's Harajuku" for its popularity with older visitors, and Setsubun draws large crowds to the Jizo-dori shopping street. Sugamo is a short ride from Ikebukuro on the JR Yamanote Line — a wonderful winter temple visit.
巣鴨のとげぬき地蔵尊高岩寺の節分会は、この人気寺院の主要な年間行事の一つ。豆まきで厄を祓い、福を招きます。
「おばあちゃんの原宿」として知られる巣鴨の地蔵通り商店街に、節分には大勢の人出が。池袋からJR山手線で巣鴨まですぐ。冬の寺参りにおすすめ。
