For a quieter hatsumode — the first temple visit of the New Year — Zoshigaya Kishimojindo is a beloved local choice. This is a Buddhist temple hall of Homyoji (not a Shinto shrine), dedicated to Kishimojin, the goddess of safe childbirth and child-rearing. While the mega-shrines draw millions, this centuries-old neighborhood temple draws a few thousand over January 1–7.
Food stalls line the approach during the first three days (Jan 1–3), and the temple sells New Year amulets (omamori) and hamaya arrows. The surrounding Zoshigaya streets are quiet enough for a peaceful New Year walk. It is 15 minutes on foot from Ikebukuro Station, so it pairs easily with a Sunshine City visit or a winter stroll through Toshima.
落ち着いた初詣を望むなら、雑司ヶ谷鬼子母神堂が地元で愛される選択。法明寺の堂宇で、安産・子育ての神様鬼子母神を祀る仏教寺院（神社ではありません）です。大社が数百万人を集める一方、この古い歴史を持つ寺院は1月1日～7日の間で数千人規模。
正月三が日（1月1日～3日）は参道に屋台が並び、お守りや破魔矢の授与も。周辺の雑司ヶ谷の街並みは静かで、穏やかな正月の散歩に最適。池袋駅から徒歩15分なので、サンシャインシティへの買い物や豊島の冬散策と組み合わせやすい立地です。
