Sonic’s 35th-year archive opens on Ikebukuro PARCO’s seventh floor

Sonic turns 35 this year. From 9 October to 1 November 2026, Ikebukuro PARCO puts that history on the seventh floor of the main building, in PARCO FACTORY, as SONIC the Exhibition -ACROSS GENERATIONS-. Admission is ¥1,500. Elementary-school children and younger go in free. Hours are 11:00 to 21:00, last entry 20:30, except 1 November, which closes at 18:00.

Archives, not a highlight reel

PARCO ART is not selling a greatest-hits loop. The official page lists game titles from the run of the series, scripts, character settings, and production files. Some of those files are first shown at this show. SEGA is the cooperating partner. kanon inc. produced it. R11R curated the art side.

Series producer Takashi Iizuka wrote that he wants long-time players and people who only met Sonic recently to feel the same timeline in one room. Creative director Kazuyuki Hoshino’s note is shorter. The work is here. Can you find the Sonic you like.

Sixteen new pieces

R11R asked sixteen artists to make new work from past Sonic designs. Some of it will be sold. How, and at what price, is still “to be announced” on the official page. The names are public.

  • Yusuke Nakamura
  • Taku Inoue
  • TSCR
  • HUKANZEN
  • Yuki Kikuchi
  • STUDY Yusaku
  • Aoi Neon
  • Panasony™
  • Ryosuke Takeuchi
  • BRIDGE SHIP HOUSE
  • SIO (The TOMODACHI!)
  • tomowaka
  • move nao
  • hakuiki shiroi
  • Yuki Imada
  • Nirosoya-san

The archive room and the illustrators’ room share one floor. Thick-line Sonic and thin-line Sonic get different answers from each artist. That is the point of putting them next to SEGA’s own paper.

Opening weekend tickets close 4 October at 23:59

9 to 11 October use timed advance tickets drawn on eplus, to thin the first crowds. The draw closes Sunday 4 October 2026 at 23:59. If you are reading this on the last day, decide before night. On 30 September the Saturday and Sunday slots failed to appear on the sales page. PARCO restored them that afternoon. The deadline did not move.

Miss the draw and you still have weekdays and every date from 12 October. The floor can still cap entry when it fills. Shareholder coupons and other PARCO discounts do not apply. The till on site does not take code payments. Bring cash or a card.

Random Sonic series stickers given to paying visitors at PARCO FACTORY

Stickers, members, and a million-yen hedgehog

Paying visitors get one random sticker from classic title art, one per entry, while stocks last. PARCO Members who have Ikebukuro PARCO set as a favourite shop in the POCKET PARCO app get a second sticker in the exhibition visual. Same-day app sign-up counts.

The shop list on the official page: trading tin badges, T-shirts, clear files, acrylic blocks, and artist-collab acrylic keyholders. YOYOYO™ shows the Arita porcelain Sonic piece Infinite Blue and will take orders for the first five bodies on site. The worldwide lottery for 50 pieces at ¥1,000,000 each opens on the YOYOYO store on 9 October. Anything bought at the venue ships later. You do not walk out with the porcelain.

A disability handbook waives the fee for one carer. The visitor still pays. Free child tickets do not include the paid-entry sticker.

Seventh floor, east exit

PARCO FACTORY sits at 1-28-2 Minami-Ikebukuro, main building 7F, a short walk from Ikebukuro Station’s east exit. It is a different floor from Otome Road and Animate. Families and game fans share the same escalators. Ike-Haro fills the streets from 30 October to 1 November. If you want a quieter walk to Sonic, go on a weekday or in the opening week.

Dates, hours, and the map live on the event page. Draw tickets on eplus. Primary facts stay on the PARCO ART page.
